I started my teaching career as an ESOL teacher, and recognize that many of our students have varying degrees on fluency. Whether it is introducing academic vocabulary, or reinforcing informal vocabulary, every lesson I teach has an ESOL component. Here is an example of a grade 1 art lesson focusing on collaborative drawing. Teams traced each other's hands, and discussed what color scheme to use before drawing. We then covered the related vocabulary and added labels to the drawings.
